This work explores, through a series of device case studies, the carrier dynamical issues for extending the operating wavelength of the mid-infrared intersubband lasers in to the far-infrared (30-300um) or Terahertz (1-10x10^{12}Hz) region of the spectrum. It is shown that room temperature population inversion is possible in optically pumped and electrically injected devices.
