Thinking outside the envelope: New perspectives for nonlinear fiber optics

We describe the use of a generalized envelope equation to model pulse 
propagation in highly nonlinear optical fibers. Simulation results are 
shown modelling carrier shock formation and supercontinuum generation 
in fused silica nanowires.
